Why No Livestream? Avoiding Mission Creep and Preventing Cinestance

ABOUT THIS EPISODE

I'm talking about Mission Creep, the Observer Effect. and Cinestance. Sounds pretty weird. It's not that weird. It's not that important anyway. Just another in my daily podcasting workout. Please consider actually leaving a review, email, or voicemail for me over the holiday. I am alone and lonely.

Daily emotions four November, twentyfourt Sotoday. I was thinking about alot of times people say hey: Why don'tyou do why don't your live stream like as in video? Sometimes people say whydon't you go live Etcetra and a lot of it has to do with the factthat I wanted to do a podcast Oi'm doing a podcast, podcast or audio, and a lot of people fall victim to thisthing called mission creep. where, instead of focusing on the thingthey intended to start say a podcast, they start adding things. Oh, and wecan also do this. We can have a we coand put video, we cal do a video andOh, we can have a merch line and, Oh then we can maybe take it on tour andgo play in bars and clubs. So this is what is called mission creepand project management, where your one...

...thing is to do the thing you started todo: killer, perfect, great, exceptional, with mission creep, people stopfocusing on the thing they intended to do and start adding tasks. So thiscauses two things to happen. It delays the project which is Nobleno in projectmanagement. You don't want to delay a project because the client wanted andpaid for that one thing. So when your mission starts to creep you're startingto add cost youre, starting to like just confuse the whole project ingeneral, and the second thing that typicallyhappens is quality suffers. So if somebody is not willing to put in thetime to do the first thing they had planned to do well and then insteadstarts adding additional tasks or features of the project. They're notgoing to do those well either. So what happens? Is People want to start apodcast and instead of focusing on quality, audio and working on theirvoice, whatever it means to them? Some peoplewant a lot of listeners. Some people...

...want sponsors and things like that. Sountil that's completely great, it's been my experience that you should keepfocusing on that. Instead of letting your mission creep, because whathappens then, is you have a halfass show? So if your audio wasn't that goodon your podcast and then you add video well chances, are your video isn'tgoing to be that good either? And if your vocal quality or your deliverysucked on a simple podcast? Well, adding video is not going to make itany better you're, going to end up with a half ast video show great just what the world meems more ofso that's reason, number one. I don't do video streams or go live, or thingslike that typically is because it's mission creep. I have a focus, and I think it's important, especially forme to stay focused on the task at hand. The thing I plan to do I got to persistand keep moving through it until I get it done to my personal liking, but thatwas more of an afterthought. The real...

...reason I don't do video is because Icome from a TV background and filmmaking and there's in a tea there's a thing inboth TV and science in science. There's a thing called the observer effect, where the thing that you are studying changes simply by the fact that you'reobserving it so you think instantly sentient beanslike humans, observing other humans. That's one way, but there's O can getsdown to even data. If data observes something else that thing it'sobserving will react based on even data looking at it point being the observereffect is not just humans or animated objects. The Observer effectcould be a number of different things that are not animate objects so similarto the observer affect in science. There's a thing in the let's call: Thethe art world, creative arts, world called sinistance, and so whatcinistance is is when...

...the person performing or just existing? I guess as a way toput it change, is the way they are because they know a camera is watchingthem. So my vocal delivery to you through this microphone because isaudio, only is completely different than if I knew you were watching me ona video right now and that's where I think we lose a lot of authenticity is because you start seeing people actfor the camera. They don't even know they're acting for the camera, but weinherently change the way we talk the way we blink our eyes hold our mouthmove our hands. We change all of that. The moment we know a camera is on us and unless you're a trained televisionor film actor, you don't know what to do so. It comes across looking awkward,it's not genuine or authentic. Looking at all, it just looks dumb. It looksunprofessional basically, so that's!...

The second thing is, I don't wantmission creep and the second thing here being the observer effect or sinistance, where I don't want to act differently or sound differently or present thedifferent show. Just because I know a camera is watching me so check out those three terms: missioncreep observer effect and synistance that spelled ci ne St an CE. I think itcombined cinema and circumstance sinastance anyway. That's all I got. Ijust got to push through and make new podcast every day. So this is today's. I'm actually feeling quite shitty anddon't even want to be here. Not here like. I just don't want to exist, butyou know whatever it is. What it is, they say, hope you haveing a great dayI'll talk to you tomorrow, homleay...

...s on this Wilcan Bat e Haouand, now back to the wall.
